Scripture
We believe the Bible is the inerrant and infallible Word of God, written by human authors under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It was provided by God in order to reveal and guide His people in all things; it is through the Scriptures we may come to know Him. It is the authority of Scripture which speaks into the lives of His people and the body of Christ, which is the church.
The Trinity
We believe there is one true God, existing in three Persons; the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. The three persons of the Trinity share the same divine essence and nature and are coeternal and coequal in power and glory.
Jesus
We believe Jesus is God’s only begotten Son, fully God and fully human, born of a virgin. He stepped out of eternity to become a human being, living a sinless life until He was put to death by crucifixion.
Three days later, He was raised bodily from the dead, providing substitutionary atonement so that all who, ‘confess with their mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in their heart that God has raised Him from the dead will be saved’ (Romans 10:9).
Sin
We believe all human beings are sinners by nature and choice, which separates us from God. It is not possible for any person to life a sinless life. All have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). Every person, therefore, is subject to God’s righteous judgment and wrath.
It is only through the atoning work of Jesus in His life, death and resurrection it was made possible for a person to be cleansed from their sin and declared righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Salvation
We believe salvation cannot be earned through works or human effort. It is received by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9), made possible through the atoning death and bodily resurrection of Jesus Christ.
It is a gift open to all those who would confess Jesus is Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9).
No person is beyond God’s love and His willingness and ability to save, “But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us” (Romans 5:8, NKJV).
Sanctification
We believe when a person is saved by placing their faith and trust in Jesus as their Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit begins to work in them.
As a person continues to grow in their walk as a follower of Christ, their life will show evidence of being less conformed to this world (Romans 12:2) and increasingly conformed into the image of their Savior (Romans 8:29).
It is a lifelong process of transformation, empowered by the Spirit of God by His grace.
Discipleship
We believe discipleship is a vitally important aspect of spiritual growth in the life of every believer. We encourage every follower of Jesus to engage in regular Bible study, to develop a solid habit of regular prayer and to find a way to serve the fellowship.
We believe it is not enough to call ourselves follower of Jesus and not seek to know Him and grow in His grace; it is necessary for His people to engage in disciplines which grow us according to the purpose He has for our lives (1 Timothy 4:7).
Gifts of the Spirit
We believe in the continuation of the gifts of the Spirit as they are presented in Scripture; however, we also believe Biblical discernment must be brought to bear in order to avoid an overemphasis regarding the expression of the gifts.
We believe the Word of God supersedes spiritual experiences as pertains to authority and all matters of doctrine. Our focus as a fellowship is to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus through His Word (2 Peter 3:18).
We believe the greatest gift of the Spirit is love (1 Corinthians 13:13) and we desire for every member of the fellowship to grow in the fruit of the Spirit, "love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control" (Galatians 5:22-23, NKJV).
Predestination
We believe in the free will of human beings to accept or reject God's grace and the free gift of salvation provided by the atoning work of Jesus on the cross.
We do not believe in the tenets of Calvinism, such as unconditional election, limited atonement and irresistible grace. We also reject the Arminian belief that believers can lose their salvation once they are truly saved and sealed by the Holy Spirit.
We believe both views off limited perspectives regarding the power, authority and grace of God as pertains to salvation.
Marriage
We believe in the God-ordained plan for marriage as given by God in Scripture. God created and ordained marriage as the union of one man and one woman. We perform weddings in accordance with the consistent teaching of Scripture as found throughout the Old and New Testament.
Pastors and Elders
We believe in the pattern of leadership established throughout the Bible as pertains to male leadership within the body of believers.
Women serving in leadership roles are a blessing that edifies the body of Christ; however, the roles of pastor and elder are to be given to qualified men (1 Timothy 2:1-15).
Calvary Cove is a non-denominational evangelical church dedicated to the teaching of Scripture on a book by book, verse by verse basis.
It is our endeavor to share the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ with our community and a hurting world (Matthew 28:19-20).
We seek to help believers grow in their faith through a deeper understanding of Scripture and intentional discipleship (2 Timothy 3:16-17).
Our desire is to glorify God by sharing the truth of His Word, edifying and building up the body of believers and serving our local community (Philippians 2:4).
